Species at risk in Ontario
As part of our Made-in-Ontario Environment Plan, our government is committed to protecting species at risk and providing strong environmental oversight.
Each year, in alignment with requirements in the Endangered Species Act, the ministry develops species-specific policies (government response statements) for endangered or threatened species at risk which summarize government-led or supported actions and priorities for their protection and recovery.
Within the time specified in the species’ government response statement (GRS), or not later than five years after the GRS is published if no time is specified, we review and report on the progress we’ve made.
2020 progress reports
The 2020 Review of Progress highlights recent activities led and supported by the province towards the protection and recovery of four species at risk.
These progress reports were developed as either single-species reports or multi-species reports for species that share similar characteristics and government response statement actions, such as Bobolink and Eastern Meadowlark.
These are the three reports for four species:
- Barn Swallow
- Bobolink and Eastern Meadowlark
- Showy Goldenrod – Boreal population
The reports show that the province has made progress toward the protection and recovery of these species at risk.
In these reports, you will see how we and our partners are helping to protect and recover species at risk, including:
- specific projects that support recovery
- a review of species observations and trends
- a summary of progress and actions towards meeting our recovery goal
Other information
The government response statements for these four species were completed in 2015.
