Update Announcement

Bill 276 (Supporting Recovery and Competitiveness Act, 2021) received Royal Assent on June 3, 2021

Bulletin summary

The Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction has introduced the Supporting Recovery and Competitiveness Act to reduce the number of regulations and cost of doing business in the province. Some measures will immediately help businesses to weather the impacts of COVID-19 while others will lay the groundwork for continued economic recovery.

Why consultation isn't required

The proposed Supporting Recovery and Competitiveness Act, 2021 is a package of legislative changes led by the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade (MEDJCT). However, MEDJCT does not have responsibility for any legislative amendments in the package that would have a significant effect on the environment.

Ministries responsible for legislation in this package are undertaking public consultation, as required under the Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR) for amendments that could, if implemented, have a significant effect on the environment.

As the proposed amendments within the bill are from 12 ministries, the ministries are responsible to evaluate their individual proposed legislative amendments against the requirements from the EBR. Where there is potential environmental impact, the individual ministry has completed a proposal notice to which it has been posted on the environmental registry.

MEDJCT-SBRTR’s bulletin notice contains a summary of these proposal notices for informational purposes only.

There are proposals in this Bill that do not have significant impact on the environment but may impact businesses. Opportunities to comment on these additional proposals are available on Ontario’s Regulatory Registry.
