As long as standards of care for wildlife and captive bred animals of these species (in regards to foxes and rabbits), dogs are only used to track/trail and not attack or harm the animals and the prohibition on use of firearms is maintained - new facilities may be worthwhile.

I reject the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's proposal to allow new licenses and the transfer for train and trial areas in Ontario. These facilities are cruel to the wild animals captured and subjected to the various methods used to train dogs to hunt. Read more

I strongly oppose the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s proposal to allow new licenses, and the transfer of existing licenses, for dog train and trial areas in Ontario. Penned dog hunting facilities are cruel to the wild animals used to train dogs to hunt. Read more

There are some issues--perhaps most--where one can reasonably accept, and respect, a diversity of opinion. Generally, this is the way it ought to be. Most issues are complex and there are many factors to consider which may lead to differing judgments. Read more

It is not necessary to train animals by abusing, harming or terrifying other creatures, especially when there are other options, what a world we live it of heartless cruelty, can't we learn anything, try harder, hope this new idea does not come to fruition

Penned hunting is illegal in most other places, is outdated, torturous and unnecessary. I am appalled and disgusted that Ontario would even consider such a disturbing thing. As history shows, most animals hunted in penned areas, do not die quickly at all. Read more

Please don’t allow any new licenses for operators wishing to hold wild animals captive as bait for the purpose of training hunting dogs. This practice is very inhumane and should not be allowed to continue at all, let alone expand.

This is such an inhumane practice that should in no way be permitted to continue. We are in 2023 and still the government feels it's appropriate to inflict such intentional cruelty. Shame on you. Read more

I'm appalled to learn that Ontario allows wild animals to be captured and used as bait in dog train and trial areas. No other province in Canada allows this inhumane treatment of wild animals and it should be banned in Ontario. Read more

I firmly reject the proposal to allow new license and the transfer of licenses for train and trial areas on Ontario After 25 years this is a massive step backwards into the past The province's existing 24 facilities need to be closed immediately

I am concerned that Ontario is considering re-establishing licenses for these types of facilities after they were phased out 25 years ago. Hunting pens are inhumane and unethical. This is a step in the wrong direction for our province. Read more
