How can anyone think this is a good idea? Training dogs so they then attack children and pets and become vicious is not in anyone's best interest. The fact that this is being considered disgusts me as an Ontarian who has lived here my whole life and made my home here. Please do not let this pass.

I am personally horrified to know that this still goes on in Canada; let alone my province. I firmly reject the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s proposal to allow new licenses and the transfer of licenses for train and trial areas in Ontario. Read more

I reject this proposal and find it very barbaric that you want to reinstate and continue this. Why are we considering capturing animals for sport again just so hunters can train dogs and hold competitions?! Just stop.

This will cause undue hardship, injury and potentially death to wildlife. The licensing fee should be a significant amount to prevent people from misusing it, in my opinion $1000 plus per annum subject to inspection by a civil servant annually to ensure compliance.

I am deeply disturbed to learn that Ontario's government is intending to ramp up the abuse and torturing of live wild animals for the training and trialing of hunting dogs. This is obviously cruel, as any reasonable person can understand. Read more

What is wrong with the Ford government? You are choosing to go backwards in regards to animal welfare, just to help out the hunting industry. This is cruel practice to wild life, and it shows how much the Ford government cares for wildlife and the environment!!!

This practice is barbaric and a step backwards for animal welfare in Canada. It does not represent the views on Ontarians and does not benefit the public. It is not hunting nor sport, it is cruel and I inhumane and should have no place even being considered in our legislation.

Wildlife should never be taken from their natural environments and held captive by hunters. It’s especially cruel to use rabbits, coyotes, and foxes as pawns for hunters to train dogs and hold competitions. I find it outrageous that this is even being considered.

This sounds like an incredible level of animal cruelty towards the wild animals that are used in the training. I don't see any reason why this is required; there's clearly no reason to subject wild animals to this level of torture. Read more

This is totally disgusting, cruel and inhumane. These facilities need to be closed. Wildlife should never be captured only to be mutilated to train some dogs. I have no idea how anyone involved with this sleeps at night.

This practice was banned in the 90s because it was cruel and torturous to the animals (foxes/rabbits/etc) being used to train the hunting dogs. This should not be allowed, and if there are any existing, they should be closed immediately!

The Ministry should not only be refusing to issue continuing permits for these existing facilities, they should actively be seeking to close the ones currently running. They should not be adding new facilities. This is nothing more than animal cruelty. Read more
