I would like to protest against the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's proposal to issue new licences for new trial and training areas and to allow the transfer of licences. New licences have not been issued for over 25 years and the reissuing of these licences is a step backward. Read more

I firmly reject the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s proposal to allow new licenses and the transfer of licenses for train and trial areas in Ontario. Since these practices were deemed cruel back in 1997, what has changed to make them not so I 2023? Read more

Please review: Wildlife should never be taken from their natural environments and held captive by hunters. It’s especially cruel to use rabbits, coyotes, and foxes as pawns for hunters to train dogs and hold competitions.

Sounds barbaric. I think they used to be able to train hunting dogs through normal means. This sentence is ironic "standards of care for wildlife". How is it a standard of care when dogs are going to kill a defenseless animal in an enclosed area. Read more

These facilities should be illegal. This is animal cruelty. Wild animals have a place within the ecosystem and should never be subjected to this kind of torture. If you want your dog to chase coyotes or rabbits away from your crops, they can be trained without resorting to torture of animals. Read more

I am strongly opposed to the proposal to amend the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act of 1997 to allow for the issuance of licences of new dog train and trial areas, and to allow the transfer of licences. Read more

Penned dog hunting causes significant distress to animals, and is nothing more than a disturbing form of entertainment for a small group of extremist sport hunters. Ontario should serve as a leader in animal protection, not as a leader in promoting animal cruelty.

The 1997 ban was put in place for a reason. Those reasons still exist. This practice is barbaric and inhumane. Causing needless suffering and immense distress to an animal who is simply trying to survive. This goes against a foundational belief that ethical hunters possess - a “fair” hunt. Read more

I cannot believe this proposal is being considered. Using trapped wild animals who have no way to escape to “train” animals to track, find them is inhumane. There must be a consideration for the target animal. How is knowingly causing them this distress, fear and anxiety acceptable? Read more

I firmly reject the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s proposal to allow new licenses and the transfer of licenses for train and trial areas in Ontario. Penned dog hunting facilities are cruel to the wild animals who are subjected to various methods used to train dogs to hunt. Read more

This is just cruel. If you need to cull urban wildlife, that's understandable, but catching and containing animals that get mauled to death is grossly unethical. A balance needs to be found that will allow all those involved, humans and animals alike, to reach a balance in our urban and rural areas

Penned hunting should have no place in our Province. I believe it is an inhumane, cruel and monstrous practice that should be completely banned. The wild animals captured and used for this sport have no fighting chance and suffer a long cruel, inhumane death for the pleasure of humans. Read more

This absolutely crazy. It is so outdated to use live animals to provide “sport” to humans. And dogs bred to kill are not welcome. I urge this government to stop this proposal and ensure this is not a sport.

I object to this prpoosal on the grounds that: (a) there are alternate, more humnane, ways to keep coyote/fox populations in check. (b) the the proposal sends the baric message that it is ok to train and use animals to rip each other apart as a means of population control .
