Why consultation isn't required
The Environmental Bill of Rights does not require this proposal to be posted on the Environmental Registry of Ontario. However, we are sharing our Regulatory Registry proposal for a High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Pilot Expansion for information purposes.
Bulletin details
On September 15, 2016, Ministry of Transportation (MTO) implemented a High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Pilot Project on the QEW, designating existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes as HOT lanes on a 16.5 kilometre section (in both directions) between Trafalgar Road in Oakville and Guelph Line in Burlington.
Effective January 1, 2022, MTO is planning to implement an expansion of the HOT Lanes Pilot, by utilizing existing HOV lanes on Highways 410 and 403. This will impact 13.13km in the eastbound direction and 11.91km in the westbound direction on Highway 403 and 10.93km in the northbound direction and 6.99km in the southbound direction on Highway 410.
The HOT Lanes Pilot expansion will allow capacity for 500 additional HOT permits to be made available for sale for each three-month term for these new HOT lane corridors (250 HOT permits for each corridor).
A single permit purchased will be valid on all HOT lane corridors.
