Given that we are entering into 2025, it continues to disappoint that with modern day equipment available, Algoma Steel is not investing in top notch equipment that demonstrates their commitment to preserving the health of the residents of Sault Ste. Marie. Read more

The facility is currently operating in a manner that is contaminating our community with impunity. They do not prioritize the safety of us and our environment. Approval of this submission must prioritize our safety and protection and be enforced. Read more

Deep concerns with the submission by Algoma Steel. The community already has one of the highest cancer rates and reduced emissions into air and water is what is required not additional toxins. The health of the population needs to come before the profit of a company.

Will the EAF be allowed to operate when the baghouse is not operating? (*See note at bottom of this email) What are the particles that will be captured by the baghouse? Are they hazardous to human health or the environment? What happens to the "dust" collected by the baghouse? Read more

I am vehemently opposed to this given the health risks to our community. These risks are unacceptable. The Algoma district had an overall cancer incidence of tel:608/100000 in 2020 (the most current data from Cancercare Ontario); provincial average is tel:413/100000. Read more
