Complete waste of time and resources. The province should be encouraging bike lanes not adding red tape and unqualified oversight. This is a change no one asked for, or needed - just like the licence plate fiasco.

I agree with the Provincial Government's proposed plans regarding bike lanes. The bike lanes are adding the congestion to the streets. For the number of bikes using the streets it is not an effective money saving plan and they don't pay taxes as cars do through gas prices. Read more

Removing and / or restricting bike lanes in Toronto is a horrendous idea. There are countless research papers that prove that increasing lanes, increases traffic. 2 examples: Read more

The stated, abstract objective of this Act is to reduce “gridlock,” using means which are proven to be detrimental to public health and safety, mobility and access to Ontario communities for all people, environmental protection, and will aid in worsening the ongoing climate emergency. Read more

Plan reeks of a political pandering that will backfire. No data to support the claims that this will improve congestion and it is terrifying to think the Provincial government will involve itself in municipal affairs and infrastructure. If this proposal passes the Ontario gov't will lose my vote.

For starters, why is the province even getting involved in these types of decisions. This is for municipalities to decide what's right for their communities, not take an edict from the premier. Secondly, reducing gridlock means getting more cars OFF roads and more options like better transit. Read more

Major urban cities around the world have already figured it out, so hopefully Ontario can too: pedestrian-friendly areas, accessible cycling infrastructure, and reliable public transit are how you build dense but thriving cities that allow people to get around -- not by having roads that primarily p Read more

When you actively work to remove protections for vulnerable people and species you are murdering them. The death tolls are already unacceptable high. Not only do bike lanes protect cyclist but they also create an additional barrier to protect pedestrians. Read more

As usual this Doug Ford conservative government are demonstrating their complete commitment to destroying any moves towards supporting the environment. Let’s be honest that’s what bike Lanes are for! Read more

As an individual that contributes to this city through municipal property taxes - one that lives and works in the city of Toronto - I am strongly opposed to this bill. In living in Toronto, bike lines have provided me with a safe and expeditious means to commute around the city. Read more

I could see the benefit of gathering data on this because we need various forms of transportation. Having said this, cities in Ontario are already built around accommodating for vehicles and this seems like a step backwards for progress toward sustainable transportation. Read more

This is a blatant over reach on an issue that should be left up to the people who actually live and work in a particular municipality. If the province wants to control how these roads are managed they should also be paying for the maintenance of them.

This is terrible legislation on multiple levels. First, it is an absurd overreach of provincial power. Why is the province wasting its time and resources micro managing municipalities? Second, ripping out existing bike lines is just a stupid waste of money. Read more

Stay in your lane! You’re over stepping your jurisdiction, yet don’t want to be responsible for things that fall under your own purview. Stop wasting time on bike lane politics when you haven’t achieved anything at metrolinx, a provincial responsibility, nor schools, hospitals, etc etc.

Please do not remove bike lanes. Ontario has a chance to become a leader in multi modal transportation. Bike lanes reduce gridlock and give people more options to travel. Less cars on the road reduce gridlock. We can achieve less cars on the road by using separated bike lanes that are all season.

Terrible proposal. Waste of money to remove existing bike lanes. It's not going to reduce gridlock or congestion, only promote the use of cars. Reduces safety for cyclists. Completely lacking in consideration for the needs of the people of downtown Toronto.

We should be encouraging bike lanes, not taking them away. All new road construction and renovation should consider HOW to incorporate more active transit. Urban roads and rural highways should ALWAYS have a shoulder sufficient to separate cyclists and from motor vehicles. Read more
