While I support the concept of reducing red tape and duplicate legislation, this isn't the solution. This bill weakens environmental protections, putting profit above people or the natural environment.

This puts development before anything else and it’s way harder to stop a project once it’s started. If information is discovered later about the species or if Indigenous communities want to express their rights it will be near impossible. This just opens the environment up for a free for all.
I strongly oppose this new legislation, which not only dismantles essential protections for endangered wildlife and ecosystems, but also disregards the rights and sovereignty of Indigenous communities. This bill represents a profound failure of responsible governance.

This proposal is a disgusting overreach by Ford and the Conservatives. With Ford it is just one scandal and disrespect for people and planet after another. This is horrific and MUST BE STOPPED!
Our planet and our species are vital to both human and land health! It is integral we do not put our idea of profit above wildlife. Please protect our animals.
Species and habitat protection should always come before economic considerations, full stop. Ontario's natural habitats are already squeezed in by surrounding developments, and the Endangered Species Act has been repeatedly weakened by exemptions and amendments.

I strongly disagree with the proposal. While housing and other infrastructure developments are important, they cannot come at the cost of our precious ecosystem. The new proposal is too lax and would invite serious abuse.
Some of my biggest concerns:

This act is terrible and I do not support it. It simply makes it easier for developers to destroy the habitat of and kill endangered species. I struggle to think of a better example of something that shows how in the pocket of developers and selfish the Ontario government is.
Premier Doug Ford must not repeal the Endangered Species Act — doing so would put vulnerable wildlife at even greater risk and jeopardize Ontario’s natural ecosystems.

While I do feel as though commenting is a waste of my Thursday morning as there seems a low chance of the proposed items changing, I still find it is my responsibility as a citizen to provide my opinion.

The fact that this proposal is hidden within Bill 5 during a federal election is shameful. Our endangered species deserve MORE protection, not less.

Development should not come at the expense of our environment. This government continues to take short cuts that the future generations will pay for.
This is the only planet we have. Learn from the mistakes of the Greenbelt scandal and withdraw this legislation.

Premier Ford, you called an early election to give you a clear mandate to combat the autocratic leader of our southern neighbour. You got that mandate but the encroachment into the environmental protections for species at risk is a red line that cannot be crossed.

This is shortsighted and awful. Absolutely do not do this. Other creatures live on this planet and we have a duty of care toward them. It is hubris and narcissism to think we can just eliminate species because of greed.
Shame on everyone wanting this.
