Proposal details

This proposal is for an Environmental Compliance Approval (waste disposal site) with the Operational Flexibility for a non-hazardous solid waste transfer facility. The total site area is 2.29 hectares, and the proposed transfer station building would be approximately 1,300 square metres property located at 779 Powerline Road, Brantford, Ontario.

The existing property is already owned by Waste Connections Canada (WCC) and is used as a base for its waste hauling and bin rental business.

The proposed transfer station would accept municipal solid waste (MSW) and industrial, commercial, and institutional waste (IC&I), and some recyclable materials. In the future, WCC contemplates a modification including future public drop-off for waste and recyclables that would be placed in covered bins outside the proposed building. All materials will be stored indoors excluding the future public drop-off materials.

The maximum quantity of waste delivered to the site on any given day is 500 tonnes, and 146,000 tonnes annually. The facility will operate from 5:00 am to 11:59 pm, seven days a week. Internal operations at the facility, including the loading of trucks, may occur 24 hours each day, 365 days of the year.

The Environmental Compliance Approval with Operational Flexibility (waste), when issued, permits pre-determined modifications to the site’s operations without a requirement to make an application for amendment to the Environmental Compliance Approval (waste).
