Effects of consultation

An email was received from a neighbour concerned about potential negative effects on air quality and odour, traffic congestion on Keele Street and nearby roads, road safety, noise levels and property value.

The Ministry considers all the comments received during technical review. The Ministry's response to the comment is:

  • Air quality: The Ministry has reviewed all aspects of air quality associated with the Site operations. All Acceptable Waste, excluding wood waste, recyclable metals, and broken concrete, will be stored within a new building. Site operations will include the receipt, inspection, sorting, and temporary storage of Acceptable Waste materials and will not include any processing activities. As a result, no adverse air quality impacts from Site operations are anticipated
  • Odour: The facility is not approved to receive any odorous waste materials such as putrescible waste, processed organic waste, liquid waste, hazardous waste, liquid industrial waste
  • Truck traffic: Traffic on municipal roads is not within the Ministry’s jurisdiction. Based on a review of the submitted materials and site plan, the facility has sufficient capacity to accommodate all incoming and outgoing truck traffic. In addition, the Ministry has imposed conditions in the ECA requiring the operator to minimize traffic-related impacts on public roads and surrounding areas
