Proposal details

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has received an application from the Municipality of West Nipissing for approval of a new official plan, which was adopted by Council through By-law № 2026-54 on July 14, 2026.

The new official plan, if approved, will replace the in-effect official plan which was adopted on April 10, 2008. This new official plan will guide growth and physical (land use) change across the Municipality for the next 20–30-year planning horizon, while incorporating provincial objectives and community-driven priorities.

The ministry will review the matter for consistency with the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024, conformity with the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario, 2011, and compliance with the Planning Act. All feedback received will be considered before presenting any potential modifications to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing for a decision in accordance with section 17 of the Planning Act.

As set out in subsections 17(36.5) and (38.1) of the Planning Act, the decision of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing regarding an official plan adopted in accordance with section 17 is final and not subject to appeal.
