Effects of consultation

No comments were received in response to the Environmental Registry notice.  However, as a result of the Niagara Escarpment Commission circulation and notification process, 8 comments were received.

All circulated parties indicated support for the proposal, with the exception of one letter of concern received from a private land owner. The concern was resolved, and the objection withdrawn. There is no known opposition to the proposal.

Description of instrument

To amend the Niagara Escarpment Plan by adding a special policy to apply to the subject property to permit the creation of lots beyond that which is supported by the lot creation policies of the Niagara Escarpment Plan, and in doing so, facilitate the acquisition of significant conservation lands containing the Canning’s Falls Complex Area of Natural and Scientific Interest by a public body, for the purposes of securing the Bruce Trail corridor and related conservation uses.

Other public consultation opportunities

Pursuant to Sections 7 and 10 (1) of the Niagara Escarpment Planning and Development Act the Niagara Escarpment Commission is required to furnish affected ministries and each municipality within or partly within the Niagara Escarpment Plan Area affected by the amendment with a copy of the proposed amendment and invite comments within 60 days

Section 10 (1) b requires public notification in local newspapers. Section (10 c) requires notification to the Public Interest Advisory Committee for their comment.

The Niagara Escarpment Commission mailed requests for comments on the proposed amendment to affected ministries; municipalities, interested agencies, as well as property owners which are within 120 metres of the subject property. Notice of this amendment proposal will be placed in two local area newspapers, the Orangeville Citizen and the Caledon Citizen.

Public comments may be submitted in writing by Monday May 14, 2018 to the contact listed at the Niagara Escarpment Commission.
