I am an Ontario resident and I think this is the worst idea your government has had (and you've had some pretty bad ideas). I think it completely unacceptable to you remove Ontario's main tool for addressing climate change without putting in a replacement that is at least as effective.

Dismantling a climate change law that was working is bad for our environment, bad for our health, and bad for business… A meaningful climate law needs science-based emissions budgets, a legal obligation to stay within those budgets, and credible, transparent progress reporting. Read more

I believe that Cap and Trade is an important part of our legislation because of its environmental, economic, and social influences. Cancelling the Cap and Trade program is a step backwards. We can not afford to ignore climate change and our situation in regards to finite resources any longer.

If we cut back carbon emissions sharply as soon as possible, there is a chance that our grandchildren will be able to still breathe the air of this planet. I agree that Cap and Trade is not the best way to do that, although Ontario did stand to make a lot of money out of it. Read more

The cancellation of the Cap and Trade Act is a travesty which will be sharply recalled when the next election takes place! This callous disregard for our shared environment is shameful and egregious. All to support the fossil fuel industry which will soon be extinct like the dinosaurs.

It is clear that a legally binding target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is required NOW. There is also ample evidence (see ECO "2018 Greenhouse Gas Progress Report" pg 41 Table 1.1) that individuals - not industry are the largest contributors to carbon emissions. Read more
