Their numbers seem to have exploded in the Hamilton/Toronto Harbour areas over the past 30 years and their nesting colonies in those particular areas have destroyed the habitat so badly it seems unable to regenerate. That and the fish food chain eco systems seem to be suffering. Read more

The cormorant is a scourge on the great lakes. I live in Grimsby Ontario and regularly fish Lakes Ontario and Erie. The loss of vegetation, the pollution and the smell from these invaders. Never mind the impact to the fisheries... Read more

I think this is a great idea and long overdue. The amount of revenue generated from recreational fishing which appears to have increased in recent years would benefit the most from allowing these birds to be thinned out

This proposal is long overdue. The destruction seen on Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching has increased substantially because of the cormorant and numbers have also increased immensely. An open season is needed to reduce populations.

Reading this proposal just made my day! For to long now I have been saying something should be done about the cormorant issue. Without even doing a formal survey anyone can see their numbers are exploding, which in turn will only destroy our native fish species. Read more

I have watched the number of cormmorants increase steadily over the past 10 years on all the bodies of water that I fish. Trees and small islands destroyed and covered in feces. Please approve the cormorant hunting season to get them under control!
