2013 changes watered down an already weak set of procedures for protecting species at risk. Any more "efficiencies" to this program that favour businesses over habitat and species protection are not advisable by the scientific facts in the matter. We are animals too. I reviewed the document, and found it confusing - that is, it seems to be heavily biased in favour of changes to the Act in order to support development with no recognition of the consequences to the natural world. This seems short-sighted to me. Read more

As the General Manager of a First Nation Owned Forest Management Company, and as a resident of Northern Ontario who lives in a part of the Province which appears most negatively affected by the Endangered Species Act, the view of the Act is fairly negative. Read more

I want to live in an Ontario where it's recognized that if we want healthy, happy people, we need nature. Children and adults both need to be able to appreciate the wonderful biodiversity we have. For this to happen, protection of wildlife habitat has to be mandatory. Read more

1. Landscape level approaches are already possible under the ESA. It is important that SAR protections are species-specific and site-specific otherwise the needs of species that occupy very small amounts of habitat or have very specific habitat requirements may be left out. Read more
