Government must recognize that land owners who maintain forests help fight climate change (sequestration of Co2).
Government should pay the landowner accordingly or allow deduction on income tax return for maintaining forests.
I participate in the MFTIP and am a member of the OWA (Ontario Woodlot Association). I feel that anyone involved in the MFTIP should also be a member of the OWA. I have used their expertise a number of times to help me with my forest management.

We should not be advocating to cut more trees, many places in Canada and many municipalities in Ontario have declared Climate Emergencies. We should be more creative and efficient with the volume we already cut and be far less wasteful.

My wife and I own three private woodlots in the Sharbot Lake area totalling 665 acres in area. Two of these woodlots are registered under MFTIP with approved managed forest plans; the third, which was acquired in December 2019, is in the process of being registered under MFTIP.

In reviewing the draft i noted only one mention of private woodlots and that was in reference to increasing harvest opportunities. no discussion of how this will be achieved, especially as most small sawmills have closed, many due to onerous regulation.

This proposal is industry, Indigenous and big business specific. What are you doing to include the many private landowners in Ontario. Forest Ontario has in recent years moved away from being the voice of private land owners.

I applaud the Government on working to develop a comprehensive plan for our forests . One aspect of the stewardship of our forest which should not be overlooked is the role of private landowners who maintain extensive woodlots throughout the Province .

I have owned a home/cottage near Elgin ON for about 25 years. Our cottage association collectively owns about 25 acres of land on which we actively manage the forest.

I understand that the government wants to increase viability with strong sectors of Ontario's economy. But, I think that they are going about it in haste, and the wrong way. Market value increases when wood is proven to be sustainable and under a Forest Ethics umbrella...

The Ontario Woodlot Association is a very astute organization which takes part in, or organizes many events which help woodlot owners with all aspects of their commitment to tree growth.
Regarding Stewardship and Sustainability; I would encourage support of organizations like the Ontario Woodlot Association and Forests Ontario.
