Why consultation isn't required

This proposed Category B project is being carried out in accordance with A Class Environmental Assessment for the Activities of the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines under the Mining Act (Class Environmental Assessment).

The Class Environmental Assessment requires the Notice of Opportunity to Provide Input to be posted on the Environmental Registry of Ontario as a bulletin (for information purposes only) for thirty days.

Bulletin details

Gary and Glen Mote has submitted an application to the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines as required under the Mining Act for permission to extract a bulk sample.

The proponent has requested permission to extract a 950 tonne bulk sample, as per the requirements of Section 52.1 of the Mining Act. The proponent has also requested permission to dispose, as per Section 52.4 of the Act, in order to permit the sale of the extracted materials.  The Minister’s written permission must be obtained prior to mining, milling, refining or disposing of more than the prescribed quantity of any mineral-bearing substance on an unpatented mining claim.

The proposed project involves excavating and removing a bulk sample of bedrock from the mining claim and conducting a variety of tests to indicate its suitability as dimension stone product and for other potential crushable aggregate uses. The extraction site is located on a bedrock outcrop where soil disturbance will be minimal. A 100 metre trail will be required to access the sampling site.

In conjunction with the bulk sample, the claimholder has also applied for an exploration permit for drilling, stripping and trenching on the mining claim.
