Bulletin summary

The Director of Exploration has made a decision on the exploration permit application PR-20-000136 to Grid Metals Corporation for early exploration activities near Elliot Lake, Ontario. The decision is to issue.

Why consultation isn't required

On April 1, 2020, the Ontario Government made a temporary regulation to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak. Ontario Regulation 115/20 exempts all proposals for policies, acts, regulations and instruments from posting requirements under the EBR until 30 days after the declared emergency is terminated.

Although consultation was not required, the ministry did consult with the public on this proposal by posting ERO# 019-1827 for public comment from May 26, 2020 to June 25, 2020. To ensure transparency, the ministry is providing details of its decision and the effects of consultation on decision-making in this notice.

Bulletin details

On June 29, 2020 the ministry issued an exploration permit near Elliot Lake, Ontario, to undertake this early exploration activity: Mechanized Drilling.

This permit will allow the company to carry out are as follows:

  • mechanized Drilling (where the drill weight is greater than 150 kilograms)

The exploration permit was issued once all Indigenous communities and the public had the opportunity to provide comment or raise their concerns. The issued exploration permit is valid for a period of three years from the date of issue.

The mining activities are located approximately 37 kilometres northeast of Elliot Lake, Ontario, in the Townships of Boon, Gerow and Lockeyer, Algoma Division, South Region.

Third parties are not able to apply for leave to appeal in respect of proposals which are posted while Ontario Regulation 115/20 is in effect.
