The Director of Exploration has made a decision on the First Mining Gold Inc. exploration permit application PR-20-000110 for early exploration located approximately 62 kilometres NE of Mishkeegogamang First Nation, in the Connell Township, District of Thunder Bay, North West Region.

Why consultation isn't required

On April 1, 2020, the Ontario Government made a temporary regulation to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak. Ontario Regulation 115/20 exempts all proposals for policies, acts, regulations and instruments from posting requirements under the EBR until 30 days after the declared emergency is terminated.

Although consultation was not required, the ministry did consult with the public on this proposal by posting ERO# 019-1721 for public comment May 1, 2020 to May 31, 2020 To ensure transparency, the ministry is providing details of its decision and the effects of consultation on decision-making in this notice.

Bulletin details

On  September 16, 2020 the ministry issued an exploration permit located approximately PR-20-000110 to First Mining Gold Inc. for early exploration located approximately 62 kilometres NE of Mishkeegogamang First Nation, in the Connell Township, District of Thunder Bay, North West Region.

The exploration permit was issued once all Indigenous communities and the public had the opportunity to provide comment or raise their concerns. The issued exploration permit is valid for a period of 3 years from the date of issue.

This permit will allow White Metal Resources Corp./Benton Resources Inc., to undertake these early exploration activities:

Permit Activities:

  • mechanized Drilling (Assembled Weight greater than 150 kilograms)
  • pitting and Trenching of Bedrock (greater than 3 cubic metres in 200 metre radius)

The exploration permit was issued once all Indigenous communities and the public had the opportunity to provide comment or raise their concerns. The issued exploration permit is valid for a period of three years from the date of issue.

On April 1, 2020, the Ontario Government made a temporary regulation to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak which exempts all proposals from the requirement to post notices on the ERO. Leave to appeal may only be sought in respect of instruments that are required to be posted to the ERO.
