Thank you for addressing the state of our current recycling system. No doubt, it is in much need of improvement. Too many valuable materials end up in the landfill only because we haven’t thought about how to reuse it. Read more

In western Canada they have a great way of handling recyclables. Recycling will never work if the general public are not committed. Many people will "sort of recycle" or not at all very few people will recycle everything that is recyclable. Read more

This proposal fall short on the following: -the scope is too narrow - the targets are WAY too low (will not drive innovation or real change) - the transition time is too long - need to include the industrial sector’s waste - every person in Ontario should have access Read more

ALL plastics should be recyclable. Currently, there is a number system associated with plastic products and it's hard to keep up with what is recycled in your city. The numbers should be eliminated and all plastics should be recycled. Plastic bags should be recycled. Too much waste from that. Read more

Simply put, if a plastic cannot be reused or easily recycled, it should never be allowed into Ontario markets. For things like medical uses where the refuse must be incinerated, then it should be done at a plant that treats the exhaust gases to remove toxins and heavy metals. Read more

Originally our small city offered curbside recycling to our bungalow style condos. Last year they discontinued it, despite more than 80% household compliance in our 24 units. Now all of our recyclables are put in the garbage. Read more

I'd like to address 2 points re: the proposed recycling legislation... 1) A consideration on the minimum sales/tonnage for participation, and 2) A request for a process that promotes more sustainable materials in recycling. Read more

Toronto, Ont.— The best and most important opportunities to improve recycling are missing from Ontario’s draft Blue Box regulation. While shifting the cost of the Blue Box program to producers is vital, this regulation does little more than that. Read more

Hi, I commend the government in making producers (and by extension, consumers) responsible for costs in disposing / recycling packaging. Consumers who choose to buy products with packaging should be responsible for disposal/recycling costs, rather than the taxpayer. Read more

Hello. I'm concerned about changes to the blue box problem. I live in Kitchener, and we have a great recycling program that includes many items not recycled in other regions. I worry that this change will have a negative impact on our program. Read more

Although most aspects of this proposal are positive steps, I do have concerns about making the producers pay. You are introducing a tax on Ontario manufacturers, and therefore making Ontario less competitive. Read more

I'm extremely concerned this proposal could actually cause producers to switch from recyclable packaging to non-recyclable packaging (destined for landfill) to avoid having to pay for recycling of their own packaging... that would be a major, major policy failure. Read more

Love this direction-thank you! I would like to see the use of compostable/biodegradable bags mandatory in the province versus typical plastic bags (for garbage, grocery, etc.) to reduce the plastic in our landfills. Read more

Thank you for your work on revising the blue box program. I fully support the transition to a producer responsibility model, which seems the best way to ensure that waste is factored into product design from the outset. Read more

Regarding Ontario’s draft blue box regulations (ERO #019-2579), please see my comments below. Ontario needs to address the growing problem of waste, stop plastic pollution and build a strong circular economy. Read more
