I do not understand why both new homes and conservation cannot coexist. We do not support this shortcut. I am tired to seeing our natural areas clear cut to make way for cookie cutter homes when there are many older homes that could be renovated if there are incentives.

The problem with conservation authorities (CA’s) is the amount of over reach they engage in. Their mandate was flood control and water management systems, which the riding incidents of flooding occurrences indicate they have failed at, as they became focused on other non mandated functions.

This legislation is a long overdue necessity. ERCA has had incredible over reach for FAR too long. Thier level of power is such a marked departure from the original mandate from when they were first enacted. I support the legislative changes from the Ford government, it's about time.
I do not agree with the proposal to build so many homes and disregard green space protection. We need more high density buildings rather than destroying all our green space.

I hope ERCA loses all of there power that they enforce on the home owners of Essex county. There is so much red tape, high fees and back log that ERCA imposes on the home owner that is so ridiculous. As a home owner, I do not want to pay any money through my taxes to them. They need to be defunded.
While it is true that housing is a major issue in the GTA, paving over the greenbelt will have disastrous social and environmental consequences. There are a number of reasons why this decision is not necessary and, in fact, will be detrimental to the lives of Torontonians.

The power of the conservation authority should not be diminished! If anything it should be strengthened. We are in a climate emergency. Taking away environmental protections such as the powers of the conservation authority to protect critical wetlands and ecosystems is insane.

DO NOT create a process for selling off conservation lands
DO NOT strip powers from the municipalities as they are the communitys democratic voice
DO NOT encourage urban sprawl
I lived in Calgary Alberta during the immense flood of 2013. Much of the damage could have been prevented had development been limited in areas that were prone to flooding and sensitive areas near water. Conservation authorities help prevent this type of damage.
