Bulletin summary

Kirkland Lake Gold has submitted a Mine Closure Plan Amendment for filing by the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines as required under the Mining Act.

Why consultation isn't required

This Closure Plan Amendment is proposing a dam construction project in the Tailings Management Area. The raises and dams are being constructed on already present infrastructure on site and as such, no new impacts will occur.

Bulletin details

The scope of the proposed design is to:

  • Continue to raise the tailings dam height from an elevation of 290 masl to a crest elevation of 294 masl (metres above sea level).

The dam will be raised using the downstream construction method and will incorporate a composite liner, a downstream filter package, and a rockfill shell.
