Brockville Long Swamp Fen Provincial Park Management Plan

We have approved a park management plan for Brockville Long Swamp Fen Provincial Park. This plan:

  • establishes the purpose, vision, objectives and zoning of the park
  • describes park classification, boundary, values and known park pressures
  • establishes park policies related to resource management, recreation management, operations and development

There was no existing management plan for this nature reserve class park. The approved Brockville Long Swamp Fen Provincial Park Management Plan is now in effect as the official policy for the management of this provincial park. The approved plan was developed with a 20-year timeframe in mind, in order to provide long-term protection and management for the park.

Brockville Long Swamp Fen Provincial Park

Brockville Long Swamp Fen Provincial Park is located within the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley, approximately 11 kilometres north of the city of Brockville, in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.

The 174-hectare park protects important features such as:

  • a provincially significant wetland complex
  • lands designated as a provincial life science Area of Natural and Scientific Interest
  • significant woodlands
  • species at risk and their habitats
  • provincially significant and regionally rare species and their habitats

The park does not provide facilities or services for recreational activities.

Brockville Long Swamp Fen Provincial Park Management Plan

We are preparing a park management plan for Brockville Long Swamp Fen Provincial Park. This plan will:

  • establish the purpose, vision, objectives and zoning of the park
  • describe park classification, boundary, values and known park pressures
  • establish park policies related to resource management, recreation management, operations and development

Currently, there is no existing management plan for this nature reserve class park. The proposed plan is being developed with a 20-year timeframe in mind, in order to provide long-term protection and management for the park.

We will use the feedback we receive through formal consultation on the preliminary management plan to help develop the final management plan. This consultation opportunity is outlined below.

Consultation

We are inviting Indigenous communities, stakeholders and members of the public to comment on the preliminary management plan.

We are notifying interested groups about this consultation opportunity through:

  • direct mailing to Indigenous communities and stakeholders that have a potential interest in the project
  • direct mailing to Ontario Parks’ mandatory contact list for planning projects
  • this notice posted on the Environmental Registry of Ontario
  • notices posted at the park or other appropriate locations

This opportunity to review and comment on the preliminary management plan is the only opportunity for the public to comment on proposed policies for Brockville Long Swamp Fen Provincial Park.

The preliminary management plan will be available for review and comment during the consultation period for 45 days.

We will consider the comments we receive as we develop the final Brockville Long Swamp Fen Provincial Park Management Plan.
