Proposal details

Application has been made by Bedard Sand and Gravel Limited to amend the site plan to allow extractive operations to occur during the month of June and not carry on operations during the month of March.  Currently, a condition on the site plan specifies that site operations (e.g. extraction and trucking) can only take place between November 1st and March 31st . The proposal will enable the operator to avoid trucking of material from the site while load restrictions are in effect on municipal roads during the month of March.

The proposal also requests to reduce the excavation setback to allow extraction of aggregate in an additional 1.3 hectare area of the licensed site along the north boundary that is currently used for agriculture.

The final rehabilitation proposes to restore the area to an agricultural land use.

Other information

Bedard Sand and Gravel Ltd. currently operates the site under the authority of Licence No. 624854 under the ARA.  In total, 21.88 hectares are currently licensed as a pit with an extraction area 11.65 hectares in size. The maximum annual tonnage that can be removed from the site is 20,000 tonnes.

Public consultation opportunities

This proposal is being circulated to landowners within 120 metres of the site and within the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.  Additionally, notification of this request has been forwarded to the City of Kawartha Lakes, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, Kawartha Conservation for comment.
