Decision summary

The Director of Exploration has made a decision on Cobalt Camp Refinery Limited Mining Closure Plan for filing by NDMNRF as required under the Mining Act.

The decision is to file the Closure Plan.

Location details

Site location details

The CCRL owns three parcels of land, which comprise the Site, where the Cobalt Camp Refinery is located and where the new Tailings Storage Facility, to support the expansion, will be constructed. These parcels of land are located in Bucke and Lorrain townships, approximately one-kilometre (“km”) southeast of North Cobalt in Timiskaming District in northeastern Ontario. The Site is accessed from North Cobalt via Silver Centre Road (also known as Highway 567). The Closure Plan Area for this Project is approximately 36 ha and includes the parcel of land immediately north of the southernmost CCR property as well as a small piece of land which extends into the most northern parcel of land for the tip of the TSF.

Decision details

On March 4, 2022 the ministry filed the Closure Plan for Cobalt Camp Refinery. This permit will allow the company to begin Production on-site. The Closure Plan was filed once all Indigenous communities and the public had the opportunity to provide comment or raise their concerns.
