Bulletin details
The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry is responsible for the long-term health of Ontario’s Crown Forest. Ontario’s managed Crown Forest is geographically divided into forest management units.
For each management unit, a Forest Management Plan (FMP) is prepared for a 10-year period by a Registered Professional Forester. These plans ensure the sustainability of that managed forest. Following year 5 of the FMP’s implementation, it is assessed and recommendations for future management planning is provided. Using these recommendations, forest condition, current policy and science, the next FMP is prepared.
A list of management units and their FMP renewal date is prepared annually as required by the Forest Management Planning Manual 2020 and posted on Ontario.ca.
