Proposal details
This proposal is to amend Environmental Compliance Approval (waste disposal site) No. A170115 issued to Clean Harbors Canada, Inc. for a 1.4-hectare transfer and processing facility, located in the City of Guelph, County of Wellington, Ontario.
The proposal is to accept solid industrial waste and solid hazardous wastes limited to the same waste classes that the facility is currently approved to receive. The proposal is on increasing the facility's capacity to manage solid industrial waste by construction of a new mix pit, excavator pad, a covered absorbent storage area, and two trailer loading areas.
Within this area, there will be four new 133,000 litre liquid storage tanks and spill containment area. In the southeast corner of the site, a new concrete pad for trailers and containers storage will be constructed.
The proposed change to accept solid industrial waste will increase the overall amount of waste received, temporarily stored, and shipped at the facility as follows:
- maximum daily amount of solid industrial waste received 400 tonnes for an annual maximum amount of 91,250 tonnes
- maximum storage capacity of solid industrial waste of 250 tonnes
No changes are being proposed to the current receiving, shipping and operating hours. Waste will continue to be received from sources within Ontario and receipt, processing and/or loading will occur indoors. The site will not receive municipal solid waste (garbage).
The facility services Canada and northeastern United States and operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
