A decision was made on December 19, 2024 to approve, with twenty-five (25) modifications, the new City of Dryden Official Plan adopted pursuant to sections 17and 26 of the Planning Act by By-law 2023-41. Notice of this decision was issued on December 19, 2024 to the City of Dryden.
The adopted official plan was reviewed for conformity with the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario, 2011, consistency with the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024, and regard for matters of provincial interest as outlined in Section 2 of the Planning Act.
The twenty-five (25) modifications to the official plan have been made to reflect recent changes to the Planning Act affecting site plan control, additional residential units, and to address provincial policy direction related to protecting water quality and quantity, archaeology, and environmental protection.
The new official plan, as approved, outlines a comprehensive framework of new and revised policies addressing matters such as environmental protection, climate change, economic development, housing, and the protection of water resources and natural heritage.
Pursuant to subsections 17 (36.5) and (38.1) of the Planning Act, this decision is final and not subject to appeal. Accordingly, the new City of Dryden Official Plan, as approved with modifications by the Minister, came into effect on December 20, 2024.
The new official plan applies to all lands within the City of Dryden.

Original proposal
Proposal details
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing received an application from the City of Dryden for approval of a new official plan, adopted by By-law 2023-41, July 24th, 2023. The new official plan will replace the existing plan, which came into effect August 27th, 2013. The new plan will provide guidance and direction for development within the City.
The proposed official plan will be reviewed for consistency with the Provincial Policy Statement, the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario, and matters of provincial interest as expressed in the Planning Act.
This includes the protection of ecological systems, conservation and management of natural resources, supply of affordable housing, provision of employment opportunities and protection of economic well-being, efficient land use, conservation of energy and water, waste management, climate change mitigation and adaptation, among other interests. The proposed official plan is a result of the City of Dryden review of the official plan currently in effect, as required under section 26 of the Planning Act,
The official plan is now before the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing for a decision in accordance with sections 17 and 26 of the Planning Act. As set out in subsections 17(36.5) and (38.1) of the Planning Act, the decision of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing regarding an official plan adopted in accordance with section 26 is final and not subject to appeal.
