Public consultation is not required under the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993, for a Designation prepared under the ARA. In accordance with subsection 34(6.1) of the ARA, the Minister shall give notice of a Designation to the public in such a manner as he or she considers appropriate. Bulletin details

The Minister of Natural Resources is implementing a Designation of areas of Crown land under subsection 34(6) of the ARA to secure aggregate deposits for future use in the development of the Ring of Fire Roads. The Designation prohibits the issuance of aggregate permits for the designated area, until it is determined who will construct the roads. The Designation may later be amended to allow specified entities to apply for an aggregate permit.

Three all season roads associated with the Ring of Fire have been proposed and are currently undergoing Environmental Assessments/Federal Impact Statements.

  • Marten Falls Community Access Road
  • Webequie Supply Road
  • Northern Road Link
  • A fourth road project, the Anaconda/Painter Lake Road upgrade is also being included in this Designation.

MNR is applying a buffer to the proposed road corridors to capture aggregate within 5km of each road centerline. The Designation would not impact authorizations issued under the Mining Act, forestry operations under the Crown Forest Sustainability Act, 1994 and Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006.
