Sofina Foods Inc. Aliments Sofina Inc. - Environmental Compliance Approval (air)

This proposal is for an amendment to the Limited Operational Flexibility for an Environmental Compliance Approval (air & noise) No. 9319-BNBJDH for Sofina Foods Inc. Aliments Sofina Inc., a meat processing facility located in the Municipality of West Perth, Ontario.

The application includes all sources at the facility, including:

• four exhaust systems serving a stunner chamber,
• one exhaust serving a chemical storage room,
• two wet cooling towers,
• three natural gas fired hot water heaters,
• general exhaust systems,
• maximum three refrigerated trucks operating at the site, each using a diesel fueled refrigeration unit, and
• maintenance welding and other supporting operations

The amendment includes addition of new wastewater Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system and inclusion of pork and chicken further processing operations.

Emissions to the air from this facility include:

• particulate matter
• nitrogen oxides, and
• peracetic acid

The Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air), when issued, permits modifications to the facility subject to limits on operational flexibility that include a production limit for the facility to be specified on the Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air). The Limited Operational Flexibility conditions have an expiry date. The company will be required to make an application for amendment at that time to renew these conditions.
