Proposal details

This proposal is for an amendment to Environmental Compliance Approval No. 2413-9HHJ92 (industrial sewage) serving the Sarnia Manufacturing Centre for Shell Canada Limited and Shell Canada OP Inc., for and on behalf of Shell Canada Products, located at 150 St. Clair Parkway, in the City of Sarnia, Ontario.

The proposed amendment is to install a new wet flue gas scrubber to reduce sulphur dioxide emissions from the fluidized catalytic cracking unit (FCCU), carbon monoxide (CO) Boiler, and the sulphur recovery unit (SRU) in accordance with Ontario Regulation 88/22. As part of the scrubber installation, Shell will be making additional modifications to their wastewater process piping to accept the scrubber blowdown effluent (containing sodium sulphate).

The blowdown effluent is proposed to travel through 750 metres of sewer and a series of maintenance holes before reaching the north potentially oily water (NPOW) treatment pond, that will discharge into Talfourd Creek via two outfalls, with ultimate drainage into the St. Clair River.
