The ministry is seeking feedback on the council adopted Official Plan and will review all comments before recommendations are provided to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing for a decision in accordance with section 17 of the Planning Act.

Proposal details
The new Township of Wellesley Official Plan proposes to replace the current in-effect 2015 Township of Wellesley Official Plan and the Regional Municipality of Waterloo Official Plan, as it relates to the Township of Wellesley.
The purpose of the new Official Plan is to establish a vision, principals, goals, objectives, and policies that will guide growth and development in the Township of Wellesley to the 2051 planning horizon. The new Official Plan will update the land use planning framework in the Township of Wellesley, which includes updating and developing new land use policies related to land use, housing, employment, and agricultural land preservation. Settlement area boundary expansions are proposed to accommodate additional residential and employment land needs to the 2051 planning horizon. The new Official Plan will also ensure consistency with the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024 (PPS, 2024).
If approved, the new Township of Wellesley Official Plan would apply to all lands within the Township of Wellesley.
