Why consultation isn't required
Section 9.1 of the Rebuilding Ontario Place Act, 2023, states that Part II of the Environmental Bill of Right, 1993, does not apply to a proposal for an instrument related to the Ontario Place Redevelopment Project. This Bulletin is being provided for information purposes only.
Bulletin details
In September 2026, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming made amendments to the Minister’s Zoning Order for Ontario Place (O. Reg. 194/24: Zoning Order - Ontario Place) to facilitatethe design and delivery of Therme Group Canada’s wellness and waterpark facility.
The Minister’s Zoning Order amendmentsachieve the following objectives:
- Building projections for stairs, retaining walls, pedestrian ramps, areaways and mechanical equipment (including battery storage)
- Setback exemptions from Martin Goodman Trail (minimum distance between two areas) for ramps, stairs, bicycle parking facilities and bridges
- Technical additions to reflect the proposed design, such as permitting narrower multi use pathways (6 metres) in locations associated with bridge connection and near certain mechanical structures.
The Minister’s Zoning Order, including these amendments are intended to help ensure zoning consistency, which will support consistency across Ontario Place in design standards and allow for a redeveloped expanded facility and programming.
