This proposal is for an amendment to Environmental Compliance Approval No. 0471-CNNMMW for sewage treatment works serving the Thunder Bay Corrections Centre located at 2495 Highway 61, in the City of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
The sewage works for the correctional facility are designed to treat and dispose of sanitary sewage in accordance with applicable provincial secondary wastewater effluent quality requirements prior to discharge to Mosquito Creek.
This application is to increase the flow rate of the works from 834,605 litres per day to 890,784 litres per day to accommodate additional inmates at the facility, increase the limit for the carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand (CBOD5) effluent parameter, change the sampling methods to 8-hour composite sampling, and update the sampling location for final effluent to the dosing chamber using a composite sampler.
The Ministry may require effluent monitoring and may impose effluent limits.
