On July 1, 2019, amendments to O. Reg. 509/18 made under the Electricity Act, 1998 came into force. These amendments further harmonize requirements for six products with Canadian and U.S. standards, and make editorial changes to keep the regulation up-to-date.

On December 6, 2018, ENDM amended the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998, to authorize the creation of a rate-payer funded subsidization Natural Gas Expansion Support Program. The amendment allows for regulations to implement program details. Both the amendment and the regulation are set to come into force on July 1, 2019.

The Provincial Nuclear Emergency Response Plan Master Plan was updated and posted in December 2017.

Ontario Regulation 273/18, a regulation amending Ontario’s net metering regulation (O. Reg. 541/05: Net Metering) under the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998 has been revoked.

Ontario Regulation 275/18, a regulation amending Ontario’s energy consumer protection regulation (O. Reg. 389/10: General) under the Energy Consumer Protection Act, 2010 has been revoked.

A new regulation was made to ensure the appropriate siting of renewable energy generation facilities.

On November 24, 2017, we amended the energy efficiency regulation with new and enhanced efficiency standards for 12 products. The amendment aligns Ontario’s energy efficiency standards with leading North American jurisdictions, helps reduce the environmental impact of energy use and encourages energy conservation.

On October 26, 2017, the Ontario government issued the 2017 Long-Term Energy Plan, Delivering Fairness and Choice. The plan focuses on making energy more affordable and giving you more options in how you use energy.
