We are closing the Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste (MHSW) program now that the Batteries and Hazardous and Special Products regulations are in place to manage hazardous wastes in Ontario. All steps related to winding up the old program have been implemented and Stewardship Ontario has prepared and submitted a final report to the Minister.

We updated the Guideline for Implementing Environmental Penalties to provide specific values of monetary penalties that may apply to petroleum facilities if they contravene sulphur dioxide regulations. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has received Official Plan Amendment 58 from the City of Kitchener for a decision. The adopted Official Plan Amendment 58 adds Specific Policy Area 76 to Map 5 that establishes maximum floor space ratios, building heights, and introduces a new holding provision to ensure implementation of a noise study.
