We have passed legislative amendments to transfer the responsibility for vehicle emissions inspections and enforcement from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks to the Ministry of Transportation.
It is the opinion of the Director that the delay that would have occurred by posting an instrument proposal notice for an Environmental Compliance Approval would have resulted in danger to the health or safety of any person; harm or serious risk of harm to the environment; and injury or damage or serious risk of injury or damage to the property.
A new Environmental Compliance Approval (air & noise) has been issued to The Sarjeant Company Limited for the operation of one mobile ready-mix concrete batching plant.
We are proposing to extend the expiry date for Environmental Assessment Act approvals by 10 years for certain projects once the relevant amendments to the Act come into effect. This extension will allow the projects to proceed (subject to any other permits and approvals required) instead of requiring a new environmental assessment to be completed.

The Environmental Guide for Noise has been updated to reflect current MTO processes and industry best practices. The changes include a new noise model, updated definition of noise sensitive areas, guidance in the approach to municipal noise by-laws, new requirements for assessing pavement types in certain situation, and changes to speed limits.
