Dumont Backhoe Services, the licensee and land owner, was issued a grandfathered Class “B” licence following the designation of Nipissing District on January 1, 2007. The licence is a Category 5 – pit (below water table) on a site of 34 hectares in size.
The Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines is ready to proceed with the rehabilitation of the former Long Lake Gold Mine site. Land use planning is a joint process between First Nations and Ontario to decide how land and water can be used. We are working with Weenusk First Nation to develop a community based land use plan for an area in the Far North. It will identify which lands will be dedicated to protection and which will be open for potential economic development.

We will not be proceeding with the proposal to offer existing cottagers in Rondeau Provincial Park a one-time opportunity to extend their term of occupation to 2038. We made a boundary amendment to Mellon Lake Conservation Reserve, by way of an amendment to Ontario Regulation 315/07 under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006. The amendment added 1,082 acres (438 hectares) of former forest reserve land to Mellon Lake Conservation Reserve following through on a long-standing land use decision.
