Land use planning is a joint process between First Nations and Ontario to decide how land and water can be used. We are working with North Spirit Lake First Nation to develop a community based land use plan. The plan will identify which lands will be dedicated to protection and which will be open for potential economic development.
We are proposing to extend the expiry date for Environmental Assessment Act approvals by 10 years for certain projects once the relevant amendments to the Act come into effect. This extension will allow the projects to proceed (subject to any other permits and approvals required) instead of requiring a new environmental assessment to be completed.
We introduced a new penalty under Waste Diversion Transition Act to help ensure compliance with the legislation and its regulations. This will help to make sure the environment remains protected during the transition to the new producer responsibility framework.
A new Environmental Compliance Approval (Industrial Sewage) was granted to CRH Canada Group Inc. The approval is for sewage works for the collection, transmission and disposal of stormwater at CRH Canada Group's proposed Dufferin Concrete Simcoe Plant located at 193 Concession 8 Townsend, in the Township of Waterford, Norfolk, Ontario.
