We have finalized changes to thresholds for thermal treatment facilities that determine the environmental assessment requirements for advanced recycling. These thresholds have been incorporated in Ontario Regulation 101/07: Waste Management Projects made under the Environmental Assessment Act (EAA).

We are proposing a minor change to the transition regulation for the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. The change would support implementation of a standard method to calculate the amount of land needed for development until 2041, known as a land needs assessment. This will help municipalities to ensure land is used efficiently.
We finalized the regulation that will make battery producers environmentally accountable and financially responsible for collecting and managing their products at end-of-life in February 2020. The regulation for electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) was finalized in September 2020.
We have updated the Blue Box Transition Schedule to include 28 First Nation communities and 11 small municipalities. These administrative changes will ensure there is no disruption of blue box services in these communities and do not impact previously identified transition dates.

Ontario is proposing to expand Charleston Lake Provincial Park (adventure class park) by adding Crown lands directly east of the park under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserve Act, 2006 (PPCRA). Adding these lands to the park would support ecological protection while allowing current, sustainable uses to continue.
Ontario has extended the temporary approach for forest operations conducted in Crown forests under the Endangered Species Act for an additional year. This will help avoid additional regulatory burden and economic strain on the forestry sector while a long-term approach is being considered.
We are notifying the public a permit has been issued for an activity that will impact Pitcher’s Thistle in order to remove a cabin on Cockburn Island, Ontario. The permit includes actions to minimize adverse effects, beneficial actions for the species as well as monitoring and reporting requirements.
