An amendment has been made to the renewable energy approval for the Grimsby Anaerobic Digestion Site located at 424 Sobye Road in Grimsby in the Regional Municipality of Niagara. The amendment will allow the facility to accept new waste types and increased waste tonnage, and to build new infrastructure on site.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) sought feedback on ideas to address the unique housing needs for rural and northern Ontario municipalities. MMAH incorporated this feedback into the development of a province-wide land use planning document. MMAH has issued the Provincial Planning Statement, taking effect on October 20, 2024.
We amended the Renewable Energy Approval for the Nation Rise Wind Farm for minor project changes including the addition of a collection route within the already permitted project area, an additional access road to the central laydown area, and an additional disturbance area at one of the turbine locations.
We have issued an Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (Air) to American Iron & Metal Company Inc., a metal recycling facility.

On August 8, 2025, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing gave provisional consent to Application No. 54-C-249556 to sever a new lot with an existing residential use from agricultural lands, in Ingram unincorporated township, District of Timiskaming.
The Director suspended Condition 1.1 of the Environmental Compliance Approval issued to INEOS related to air emissions (the “air ECA”). The Director also amended the air ECA as benzene discharges from the facility were above acceptable levels, despite several previous provincial orders requiring the company to reduce benzene emissions
The Minister has approved amendments to the Maitland Valley Assessment Report and the Maitland Valley Source Protection Plan. These amendments involve:
updating the vulnerable area mapping for the Century Heights drinking water system; and,
updating the groundwater protection zone for the Lucknow drinking water system

We approved an amended Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) (waste disposal site) No. A680066 for a 6.3-hectare waste disposal site (processing/transfer). The ECA amends the approval of the existing transfer facility and approves a new anaerobic digestion facility.
We are clarifying the administrative process that a person will be required to follow to request the addition of an industrial activity to the Emissions Performance Standards program. We are also providing information about the data the ministry requires to assess these requests.
