A decision was made on May 28, 2021 to approve Official Plan Amendment No. 30 (OPA 30) to the City of London Official Plan (The London Plan) as follows:

• Add policies to identify and implement Protected Major Transit Station Areas.
• Add new mapping to illustrate the routes and the Protected Major Transit Station Areas.

The Minister has issued an overall benefit permit under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 to Branthaven Queen West Inc. to adversely impact Redside Dace habitat so they can construct a residential development. The permit includes actions to minimize adverse effects, actions to benefit the species, and monitoring and reporting requirements.

We have decided to end the nitrogen oxide and sulphur dioxide emissions trading program by revoking O. Reg. 397/01 and O. Reg. 194/05 under the Environmental Protection Act. The Program is no longer an effective tool to address emissions of these contaminants from regulated sectors in its current form.

A decision was made on June 3, 2025 to approve, with modifications, the new Municipality of Neebing Official Plan, as adopted by By-law 2022-029. The approved new Municipality of Neebing Official Plan outlines a comprehensive framework of new and revised policies to guide growth and development.

A decision was made on November 14, 2022 to approve the entire official plan for the Municipality of Greenstone with ten (10) modifications.

The Minister has issued a permit under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 to the Regional Municipality of Halton for activities in Burlington that may impact Silver Shiner. The permit includes actions to minimize adverse effects, actions to benefit the species, as well as monitoring and reporting requirements.

A new Permit to Take Water No. 3628-BQLL4X was issued to ArcelorMittal Dofasco MP Inc. and ArcelorMittal Canada Inc. operating as ArcelorMittal Dofasco G.P. Water will be taken for industrial purposes.

Amendment to Environmental Compliance Approval (air & noise) No. 9716-A5WQQY was issued to Northern Ontario Slag and Cement Inc., a mineral rock processing facility located in Black River-Matheson Township, District of Cochrane, Ontario.

On December 4, the Affordable Energy Act, 2024 received Royal Assent, enabling the Ministry of Energy and Electrification (the ministry) to develop Ontario’s first Integrated Energy Plan, make it cost-effective to connect to the electricity grid, help reduce energy use to save money, and support the growth of Electric Vehicle adoption in Ontario.

We have issued a director’s order to National Steel Car requiring them to submit an application and supporting documentation for site-specific standards and an amended Environmental Compliance Approval by December 15, 2024.

On March 26, 2025, we issued an amended Environmental Compliance Approval No. A121001 to Walker Environmental Group Inc. to process solid organic waste at a waste disposal site (transfer/processing - composting) located at 3879 Thorold Townline Road, Thorold City, Regional Municipality of Niagara, L2V 3Y5.

A new vehicle emission regulation under the Environmental Protection Act and amendments to the Vehicle Permits Regulation under the Highway Traffic Act will be in effect January 1, 2020, which will clarify and strengthen on-road vehicle emissions requirements and set out rules around the testing of emissions from heavy diesel commercial vehicle.

The director exercised his powers under subsection 20.13 paragraph (b) of the Environmental Protection Act to impose new terms and conditions to Stelco Inc. coke oven battery Environmental Compliance Approvals for a steel manufacturing facility located in Haldimand County, Ontario.
