The Resource Management and Safety Act, 2025 received Royal Assent on December 3, 2025. The new Geologic Carbon Storage Act, 2025 will come into effect on January 1, 2026, and will enable the development of commercial-scale carbon storage projects in Ontario
On April 29, 2019, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing filed a Zoning Order with the Registrar of Regulations as Ontario Regulation 76/19 to permit commercial and employment land uses on a property in the City of Vaughan. We want to inform you of this decision even though we are not required to under the Environmental Bill of Rights.
On November 24, 2017, we amended the energy efficiency regulation with new and enhanced efficiency standards for 12 products. The amendment aligns Ontario’s energy efficiency standards with leading North American jurisdictions, helps reduce the environmental impact of energy use and encourages energy conservation.

Pursuant to Section 53 of the Planning Act, provisional consent was granted on May 9, 2023, in respect of Application 60-C-237549 for a lot addition on lands described as PINs 42034-0567, 42034-0555, and 42034-1483, Unsurveyed Territory, Thaddeus Lake, District of Kenora. The last day this decision can be appealed is May 29, 2023.
We have issued an Environmental Compliance Approval (sewage) to 1770888 Ontario Inc., for the pilot studies consisting of the installation and use of the coagulant (ClariPhosTM or equivalent), for the removal of total phosphorus at any municipal, private and/or industrial sewage treatment plant within Ontario.
We will be establishing a public registry for licences of occupation under the Mining Act. The public will be able to easily access this new registry through the Mining Lands Administration System (MLAS).

We have issued a benefit permit to the Regional Municipality of York for construction activities that will impact Redside Dace. The permit includes actions to minimize adverse effects and benefit the species, as well as monitoring and reporting requirements.
In co-operation with academia (Fisheries Conservation Foundation, Universities of Carleton, Illinois, Manitoba, and Queen’s), the ministry is proposing to create temporary fish sanctuaries on Opinicon Lake and Charleston Lake for the 2024 and 2025 fishing season to support long-term bass nesting and population recruitment research.
