Feedback on ERO 019-8756 - Modernizing Wildland Fire Management in Ontario

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing on behalf of Robotics Centre (robotics-centre.com) to provide feedback on the proposed updates to wildland fire management in Ontario, as outlined in ERO 019-8756.
Robotics Centre is committed to supporting public safety and environmental protection through advanced technology. We appreciate the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's efforts to update The Forest Fires Prevention Act and address the challenges posed by increasing wildland fires.

Our company offers technology solutions that can significantly contribute to these efforts. The Skydio X10 drone, manufactured in the United States without any Chinese components, is designed for reliable performance in challenging and denied environments. While paired with the Skydio Dock system, this autonomous drone provides, real-time data collection and monitoring capabilities, which are crucial during wildland fire emergencies.
Additionally, the FLIR Boson+ radiometric thermal camera, integrated with the Skydio X10, enhances the ability to detect heat signatures through smoke and dense vegetation. This capability is essential for monitoring fire spread and identifying potential hotspots, enabling quicker and more informed decision-making.

With the advent of 5G networks coming to Canada in 2025, these drones can be operated remotely with minimal latency, allowing for continuous and reliable surveillance over large areas. This reduces the need for human intervention in dangerous situations, meaning fewer firefighters will be at risk.
In terms of preparedness and response, these technologies allow for rapid deployment and efficient monitoring, helping to protect communities and manage wild land fire risks more effectively.

We also support the proposed updates to enforcement and compliance measures within The Forest Fires Prevention Act. The ability to monitor and enforce compliance using advanced drone technology, free from potential security concerns, is an important step forward.

Robotics Centre looks forward to the opportunity to contribute to the modernization of wildland fire management in Ontario. Our advanced technology solutions, including the Skydio X10 and Boson+ thermal camera, are well-suited to support Ontario's efforts to manage wildland fire risks while keeping firefighters safe.

Thank you for considering our feedback.
