Re: Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry ERO (019-8268) - Advanced Wood Construction Action Plan
The Mass Timber Institute (MTI) is one of Canada’s leading Institutions for mass timber research, development, and education. Located at the University of Toronto’s (UofT) John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design, the Institute is positioned to leverage cross-cutting collaboration among UofT’s diverse faculties and in a close collaboration with leading industry partners. The Institute’s mission is to position Canada as a global leader in sustainable mass timber research, education, and further development. Our mission aligns well with that of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) to ensure that Ontario is a leader in advanced wood construction and manufacturing expertise.
By promoting advanced wood construction, we can leverage our abundant forest resources to create economic opportunities while addressing the pressing need for innovation housing and bioeconomy in our province. The action plan’s emphasis on education, research, and collaboration will also foster a skilled workforce equipped to thrive in this evolving sector. Additionally, the environmental benefits that accompany advanced wood construction demonstrate a commitment to sustainability that is necessary in our evolving climate dilemma and mitigating GHG emissions.
Overall, this strategy aims to underscore and address many of the key issues associated with the status quo of construction and development in Ontario. The Mass Timber Institute supports wholeheartedly the Advanced Wood Construction Action Plan and believes that it will become an effective aspect to increase the adoption of advanced wood construction in Ontario, and Canada.
