I am not at all supportive…

I am not at all supportive of Bill 4, signalling the cancellation of the Cap and Trade program, for the following reasons:

1. Cap and Trade works to reduce emissions, and if anything the amount should be increased well beyond the $10 fee established

2. Our natural resources are Canada's most valuable assets. Climate change will negatively impact our ability to utilise our resources in a sustainable way for years to come.

3. Scrapping the program will cost all of us money in the short and long term. Scrapping the plan will generate lawsuits to payback promised money, will decrease revenue to government, and will reduce funding of programs to support additional reductions such as the GreenON program.

4. The severe impacts of climate change, including extreme weather events, food shortages, and other crises will happen in my lifetime and yours. Indeed, they are already happening and we are experiencing them more frequently than ever before.

5. The climate doesn't care where the reductions are made. Ontario should be setting targets, implementing a plan, and achieving reductions. We should be a leader for others to follow.
