Ontario's cap and trade programs was a shining example of climate action that made us an example for the world to follow. I am incredibly disappointed that cancelling it is even being considered. Climate change is a pressing threat and will already produce irreversible negative changes to the Canadian way of life (and even greater devastation around the world!) within my lifetime (see the newest peer-reviewed IPCC report for more details). If you assume to be a responsible government that is here to protect Canadians, then there is absolutely no way that you can justify a decision to cancel the cap and trade program. Based on any peer-reviewed scientific or economic review, there is absolutely zero basis that this will have any long term benefit to Ontarians, and indeed will set us back on track for even worse climate change related consequences.
