I completely disagree with this government's plan to cancel the Cap and Trade system -especially without a viable plan to replace it. In this era of unprecedented climate disruption and extreme weather, it's beyond irresponsible to abandon our goals of reducing our carbon emissions to an acceptable level , not to mention making polluters pay for the damage that they are contributing to - that our tax dollars end up having to cover. In the millions of dollars. This in addition to the human cost in lives, injuries, disruption and loss of property.
This bill seems to unfortunately just be a knee jerk reaction - "if the Liberals did it, it must be bad".. This is a non-partisan issue. At the core of it all, it is a Human issue.
Economically it also is destructive - our green economy is good and growing - and now it will be discouraged and apparently abandoned. In lieu of what? More fossil fuels? More nuclear reactors? We need to not only look long term (beyond your 4 year term), but also at the broader picture - we all share this planet, and we all have to play a role in saving it. Is this the legacy we want to leave for our children? We need to encourage green initiatives and industry - not disband it.
I strongly encourage you to take a second long hard look at what this bill is really intending to do.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
