The fact that the Algoma region already has the highest rates of cancer in Ontario, with Algoma Steel being our major source of air and water pollution, and considering that their MANY spills and overflows into the water that provides our drinking water, plus the high particulate matter and benzene, etc. that they spew into the air regularly ; I DON’T believe that they should be allowed to surpass the recommended levels of these toxic gases.
The lack of public information does nothing to help, as does the inaction by the Ministry of Environment…. They have had one fine in the 19:years since I moved back to SSMarie, despite being “outed” by citizens/stackwatch.
Many relatives and friends have been diagnosed with cancer….STOP allowing companies to kill people for profit….they should be accountable and responsible for keeping their workers, and the community, safe from the toxins. Spend more on equipment and mitigation measures!
